Modern dance in ballet heels
Ballet Never Really Leaves You
I have danced ballet regularly since childhood and trained professionally, so the movement itself is deeply familiar to me. The posture, turnout, arm positions, balance, and constant awareness of line are things my body learned long before Ballet Heels entered the picture.
Translating Technique into Ballet Heels
That was exactly why I wanted to test how much of my ballet training would transfer into Ballet Heels. The shoes change the mechanics completely. I am already placed in an extreme position, so balance becomes less forgiving, and every correction has to happen faster. But the foundation is still ballet: keeping the upper body calm, controlling the hips, lengthening through the legs, and making the movement look lighter than it actually feels.
It Worked
And yes, it worked. Not because Ballet Heels suddenly became easy, but because the ballet training gave me something solid to work from. I could use familiar positions and movement patterns while adapting them to a very different kind of footwear. That combination is exactly what makes these shoots interesting to me: taking something I have known for years and seeing how far I can push it into another form.
