Winter fashion on tiptoes
Starting Before I Arrived
Usually the shoot begins when we reach the location, but this time it started much earlier. I already had the Ballet Heels on when I left and used public transport to get there. That felt much stranger than I expected, because suddenly the shoes were no longer part of a controlled photo setup. They were simply part of how I was moving through an ordinary day.
Being Seen Before the Camera
Of course people noticed. I noticed them noticing too, which made the whole trip slightly uncomfortable and also strangely interesting. There is a big difference between wearing something unusual for a photograph and wearing it while waiting, sitting, walking, and sharing space with people who have no idea why you are dressed like that. The shoes felt much more real in that situation.
Practicality Won This Time
The reason was actually simple: it was too cold outside to arrive at the location and change shoes there. So I accepted the awkward part and wore them from the beginning. Sometimes practical decisions create the more memorable story anyway. By the time we started taking pictures, I had already been living in the outfit for a while instead of just putting it on for the camera.
