What are ballet heels?
Ballet heels — also called ballet boots — are footwear that sets the foot fully en pointe, the way a classical dancer stands on the very tips of the toes, and holds it there on a high heel. They join two things that rarely meet: the vertical arch of a pointe shoe and the lift of a stiletto. Standing in them is never casual. It asks for balance, control and a trained sense of poise, and that demand is exactly the point — the shoe turns posture into discipline, and every step into something deliberate.
The discipline behind them
To move in ballet heels is to negotiate, constantly, between control and surrender. The line of the leg, the set of the shoulders, a stillness held a beat longer than is comfortable — none of it is accidental. What is Ballet Heels, the project?
Ballet Heels is the name of a body of photographic work by Marie Deux. It reveals the fragile balance between control and surrender — where silence speaks louder than words, and vulnerability becomes an unspoken strength. Each shooting is a study in that balance, composed from latex, light and movement around a single discipline. The albums, the Life journal and the livestreams are all part of the same enquiry.
